  1. Return of 'L.A. Bizarro'

The strange little retreat called Troutdale in Agoura Hills could best be described as a cross between <a href=&quot;http://theguide.latimes.com/downtown-la/restaurants/cliftons-cafeteria-venue">Clifton's Cafeteria</a> and Disneyland's Country Bear Jamboree. A tiny shotgun shack, which looks as if it belongs in the backwoods of "Deliverance," is nestled beside its dirt-road entrance. And once inside, anglers can grab bamboo poles to fish in its two murky concrete ponds, stocked with nearly 1,200 trout and surrounded by carved wooden bears and Indians.

  8. What denim brands are slipping into

Denim, a simple, sturdy and relatively inexpensive material, has been associated with manual labor for much of its 200-plus-year history in the United States. But the indigo-dyed cotton fabric has undergone a transformation in the last few decades, appearing in garments as diverse as sleek, tailored pants acceptable at a red carpet event and fleece &quot;jeans" that teeter between weekend wear and sleepwear. What follows is a survey of some of the newest, freshest and, in some cases, most perplexing developments in the deep end of the jean pool.
