1. 'Open house,' other roadside signs are litter for some motorists

Q: Why are builders allowed to plaster directional signs to their new developments along the roadway and at the exit ramps on routes 22, 191, and other highways? One day in May, on 22 westbound from 191, I counted 13 exit ramps that had two signs each, one for Heritage and one for Harvest Fields in the Macungie area. These signs are posted right along the highway shoulder and at the end of the ramps, some of which resemble garbage dumps. I am a Realtor, and if we all put our signs where the builders have them, you'd have 100 signs at each ramp. Does anyone have to pay for or get permission from PennDOT to place these signs? It seems an unsafe thing to do for whoever is getting out of their vehicle to post them. Of course, there are other signs as well, for junk haulers, kick-boxing, whatever else. In the case of builders or Realtors including myself, there is no need for directional signs because of Internet maps and GPS units to locate the properties. Someone should remove these signs, and/or fine the perpetrators.

  3. Small, outdated traffic lights near Emmaus

Q: The traffic light at Route 29 and Ramer Road in Upper Milford Township is the source of a lot of problems. We can see the intersection through our kitchen window and sometimes see two or three cars go through red lights in a few minutes' time. Dozens of cars run the red light daily. I believe the lights are too small for a road this size, and larger, more visible lights are needed. An increased police presence or camera would also deter red-light running. Many people cut through the Pickles Steakhouse parking lot just to avoid the light. Fortunately, we haven't seen a major accident in the months we've lived here, but it's only a matter of time. Who can I contact about this problem?

  13. Schoenersville traffic signals seem to fade

Q: I live off of Macada Road in Hanover Township and I've noticed on numerous occasions as I'm waiting to turn left onto Schoenersville Road from the Route 22 off-ramp that cars routinely run the light (going southbound on Schoenersville) in front of the on- and off-ramps for 22. Its almost as if they don't see the light because they are focusing on the next light at Macada, Road which is only about 100 yards away.
