In the early 1900s, Helen M. Marsh had a dream of developing a model community of modestly priced houses. Moderately well-to-do and fiercely independent at a time when women were not expected to have business acumen, let alone clout, she visited Long Island and decided on the undeveloped grassy plains of western Nassau for carrying out her plan.
