9. Charles H. Juergens

Charles H. Juergens of Costa Mesa, Ca passed on February 18, 2011 at home with his family by his side. Charlie would not want your ordinary obituary so I (Karen) his wife of 34 years have decided to honor him in my own way. Charles was fond of a small town in the Midwest called Dunlap, Iowa. As a small child he would stay all summer to spend time with his grandmother Gussie whom he adored and would share many a story of his love for Dunlap and the small town mentality. Charlie also enjoyed water skiing in the “Juergens” compound in Lake George, NY during the summer months and recently discovered their old house was turned in to a hotel and the power boat is still on the property.

  11. Now The Cold

That was a weird snowfall last night. It worked out great for about 1/3 of the viewing area and not so great for about 1/3rd of the area and great for another 1/3 of the area. Confused, well the snow forecast was pretty good for areas from 152 in the northland northwards to the IA border where 4-7″ of snow fell. Didn’t quite expect the 7″ random numbers that came in, but overall it was good. KCI picked up about 2″. The middle 1/3 of the area, including the Downtown vicinity and points southward, things weren’t that good. It was snowing when I left the station last night @ 10:30 and we already had a coating, I thought we’d at least get 1-2″ from that. We didn’t. Areas south of 435 on the southside barely had any flakes whatsoever. Farther south than that (Warrensburg-Harrisonville-Paola)), I was expecting very little snow accums to begin with so that part of the forecast was OK. That was good.

  13. Bad Weather is Good News for Some Businesses

For many people, the plan for a snow storm means an extra trip to the grocery or hardware store to stock up on supplies to weather out the storm. So while a snow storm is never good news, for those in the retail sector it's means money flowing their way.
