  1. Helen B. Durst, 84, Salisbury

    Helen B. Durst, 84, died April 11, 2013 at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Cumberland, Maryland. Born May 7, 1928, she is the daughter of the late Sherman and Clara Beachy. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Robert C. Durst; two brothers: Blaine Beachy and Sherman Beachy Jr.; and three sisters: Arlene Leedy, Margaret Peck and Joan Beachy. Bob and Helen met in 1946 and were married Nov. 19, 1950. Helen is survived by two daughters: Barbara D. and husband Mark Stephens, Stafford, Va.; Connie D. and husband Patrick Samson, Chantilly, Va.; two brothers: Cecil Beachy, Somerset; and Virgil Beachy, Grantsville, Md.; three grandchildren: Jennifer Stephens and husband Theodore Wolf; William Patrick Samson; and Lauren Michelle Samson. Mrs. Durst graduated from Grantsville High School in 1946. Helen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She worked as a bookkeeper and retired in 1979 from Diehl’s Ford in Grantsville, Md. Helen was a member of the Meyersdale Chapter 548, Order of the Eastern Star, an auditor for Salisbury Borough since 1979, and assisted with bookkeeping activities for St. John’s Lutheran Church. She also served on the Salisbury Voter Registration Board. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and caring for her three grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury on Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be conducted on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ingrid Chenoweth officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery. Meyersdale Chapter 548, OES, will hold a memorial service on Sunday evening. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Memorial Fund.   5. Amanda Shirlene Bittinger, 73, of Boynton

    Amanda Shirlene Bittinger, 73, of Boynton, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at her residence. Born Feb. 6, 1940, in Jennings, Md., she s the daughter of the late Loman and Lulu Belle (Hoover) Wilt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lee Bittinger, Nov. 27, 2004 and a son, Larry DeWayne Wilt. Mrs. Bittinger was a homemaker and a member of Maranatha Assembly of God. She is survived by two sons: Joseph Lee Bittinger and wife, Lynn (Knull), Woodstock, Va.; James Allen Bittinger and wife, Marie (Bauer), Boynton; three daughters: Debra Lynn Failinger; and Susan Kay Bittinger and companion, Randall Hollada, all of Meyersdale; and Bernadine Frederick and husband, Michael A., Grantsville, Md.; two brothers: Calvin Wilt and Fay Wilt, both of Grantsville; two sisters: Betty Beachy and Alverta Stanton, both of Grantsville; a half-sister, Maryetta Hay, Salisbury; a step-brother, Robert Hay, Grantsville; and a step-sister, Emma Hay, Windber; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, Md., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.&nbsp; Services will be conducted in the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
