The National Defense Authorization Act of NDAA is a federal law that has been enacted yearly for decades to specify the budget and expenditures of the United States Department of Defense.

Sections 1031 and 1032 of the 2012 version of the law, controversial to the general public, have been perceived as threats to the Bill of Rights. They allow for the indefinite military detention of any individual suspected of "belligerent acts," lowering the bar for detention from terrorism to vaguely defined "belligerence," challenging the general judicial status of "innocent until proven guilty" and effectively suppressing the right of citizens to a trial.  Show more »
