    The heaviest rains in two months swept the Chicago area Monday, halving a September precipitation deficit which had been approaching 2 inches. By late Monday, O'Hare's rain tally from the stubborn upper storm which first rained on the area Saturday, had reached  1.34 inches while Midway Airport's total was 1.32. The official total at O'Hare was the heaviest since 8.41 inches fell over 24 hours between July 22 and 23.
