  1. Ring in the New Year With Fireworks, Music and Comedy at First Night Hartford

There's almost an embarrassment of riches facing New Year's Eve revelers in the Hartford area this year: ice skating, carousel rides, street performers (pictured) and horse-drawn carriage rides at Bushnell Park; puppets, poetry and improvisational comedy at Center House Church; robots at Hartford Public Library, Japanese drummers at the Old State House; and various musicians, from steel bands to jazz to klezmer, on and on all around town. Head to the Grand Procession, which begins at Hartford City Hall at 5:25 p.m. and works its way to the Bushnell Park fireworks viewing area on Trinity Street. There'll be two fireworks displays in Bushnell Park at the Trinity Street Area beginning at 6 p.m. (Bring your 3D fireworks glasses.) What a great way to ring in the new year, with our friends and neighbors, in the city we all love.
