  15. Charles Dean: May 3, 1939 - July 1, 2011

Charles David Dean, 72, of Lone Oak Drive passed away at his home on Friday, July 1. A native of Jessamine County, he was born May 3, 1939, to the late Harrison and Hazel Walker Dean. He was a member of the Nicholasville Church of Christ; a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Cuban Crisis; and a retired employee of Blue Grass Energy. Charles David had many hobbies and was devoted to learning all he could about each one. He was a member of the Black Powder Club and hand-made his guns, was a member of the Ancient Age Street Rods, the Delorean Club, loved motorcyles, and his favorite car was his El Camino. His latest hobby  was being a member of the Howdy Doody Club, which inspired him to collect Howdy Doody memorabilia. Playing music became a passion for him at an early age, and he played locally in and around Nicholasville and had many fans who still came out to see him when he joined in with the Copperstones. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Brewer Dean; his daughter Macy and husband Matt Kanatzar; grandson Taylor Kanatzar; cousins; and many dedicated friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelley Dean. Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Brother Randy Grow officiating. He was laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring him as pallbearers were Mark Wilson, Norman Belcher, Ben Rainwater, David Newton, Jimmy Bowman, Pat Mallor, Matt Kanatzar and Bill Hall. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Shaw, Don Nixon, Jerry Rice Peel, Gary Reister, Skip Graff and Wayne Perkins. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Bluegrass. Guest book and tribute www.hagerandcundifffunerals.com.
