3. Mark Gonzales' White Sox mailbag

The Sox have become downright painful to watch: base-running blunders that would bench a high school ballplayer, fielding errors that remind one of Class-A ball, and pitifully weak discipline (and skill) at the plate. The only thing they have is pitching, and that is perhaps their only trade bait.

  5. Ventura dispels 'whisper' he wants out

Robin Ventura says he has no plans to abandon ship as his team struggles to win games. The Sox salvaged a 4-1 victory Saturday, but have dropped 10 of their last 12. "For one reason or another, there is a whisper that because it is going the way it...

  9. Cubs get it right with Bryant

The easiest thing for the Cubs to do would have been to let the Astros make their pick for them. But it's a disappointing night at the theater when easy stands in for best, and President Theo Epstein's stable of scouts doesn't work 20-hour days to go through the motions at show time.

  11. Shaky season for White Sox

It’s obvious the White Sox are having a horrendous season. Their won-loss record tells us that. But the more pertinent question is: What do we do about this mess? I suppose we could just blame general manager Rick Hahn. After all, he put this...

  13. Slugger Dunn apparently powerless to boost offense

Monday afternoon, when the White Sox were 24-24 and rolling — at least by the low standards of our civic baseball drought — Adam Dunn was talking about how easy it is to start pressing when things go wrong. "I'm the world's worst at it,''...

  15. History replete with Cubs and Sox draft hits and misses

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo was working for White Sox scouting director Al Goldis in 1989 and was assigned to watch Auburn University in some early-season games.

  17. Michael Jordan, baseball, Harry Caray and the Crosstown Classic

While scanning YouTube for Crosstown Classic clips, I came upon this gem from 1994, back when the game was a yearly charity event before the days of interleague play. The ’94 game at Wrigley Field is the only one for which I recall any specific detail, and it’s not exactly because the Sox’s starting right-fielder was a 31-year-old rookie, but more specifically because the right-fielder was Michael Jordan.

  19. Ozzie wants to manage and someone should let him

In a perfect universe, with the White Sox and the Cubs playing a crosstown series, Ozzie Guillen would be sitting on the top of a dugout bench.

  21. Change in air surrounding White Sox

Jerry Reinsdorf is 77, going on 40. He wasn't joking when he told a friend he is planning to serve as host when the 2033 All-Star Game comes to U.S. Cellular Field, commemorating the first one at Comiskey Park in 1933.
