  1. Reader Q&A: Mark Gonzales' White Sox mailbag

<strong>How did the White Sox get stuck with four blocks of 20 games without a day off (April, May-June, July-Aug, and Aug-Sept.)? I didn't go through the entire MLB schedule, but enough to see that some teams have maybe one of those blocks, and some teams have none. Do you think this may put the Sox at a slight competitive advantage against teams with more regular days off? Particularly as the season wears on? </strong>-- Gerald Reese; Alameda, Calif.

  3. What we know about 'Divergent' filming in Chicago

We know <strong>&quot;Divergent"</strong> &mdash; the futuristic sci-fi flick starring Shailene Woodley ("The Descendants") and directed by Neil Burger ("Limitless") &mdash; will begin filming entirely on location in Chicago and at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios on the West Side in April. We've also been told by Gov. Pat Quinn that filming for "Divergent," scheduled to hit theaters March 21, 2014, will bring in $30 million in local spending and 1,000 jobs.

  5. Position analysis: High bar for Rios in 2013

The only question for Alex Rios entering the 2013 season will be: Can he come close to repeating what he achieved in 2012, particularly in an odd-numbered season?
The only question for Alex Rios entering the 2013 season will be: Can he come close to repeating what he achieved in 2012, particularly in an odd-numbered season? Rios’ performance in 2012 was more than what general manager Ken Williams...

  7. Rios: From bad to best

For the longest time, it appeared that Adam Dunn was a lock for Comeback Player of the Year, and he still might win it as he heads to another 40-homer/100-RBI season after last year’s 11-homer/42-RBI disaster. But I’d suggest Alex Rios...

  9. Reader Q&A: Mark Gonzales' Sox mailbag

<strong>Do you think Sox overpaid for Brett Myers? The player to be named later is most likely a high 2011 draft pick, which is why they have to wait. </strong> Jim F., Denver

  15. Mark Gonzales' White Sox mailbag

<b>What's your take on Dayan Viciedo's future with the organization in light of the Adam Dunn/Paul Konerko signings? No real opportunity for Dayan to get significant playing time at 1B or designated hitter now or in the foreseeable future. He doesn't really impress as a third baseman, where I think Morel will claim the job. Is there a chance Viciedo can play a passable outfielder, or is he now just trade bait? Given his age, wouldn't it be awfully risky (even for Kenny Williams) to trade him if he really has the ability to become a 25+ HR guy?</b> -- Michael; Cape Elizabeth, Maine

  17. From the Cubicle

It's come to this. Here's the deal: A White Sox victory today clinches the American League Central. If the Sox lose today, they can still clinch the division, if the Indians lose tonight. After that it gets confusing. Let's just say the only way the Sox...

  19. Breaking down the game

    Special to the Tribune
FIRST INNING Sox top: Oh, no. What happened to small ball? Scott Podsednik walked on four pitches but Willie Harris wasn't asked to sacrifice and Podsednik was picked off. Cubs top: Carlos Zambrano was smokin'. You could hear the pop on his pitches....

  23. Contreras' strikingly good outing big plus for bullpen

    Tribune staff reporter
The most impressive number for Jose Contreras was 67. That was the percentage of strikes Contreras threw Saturday that enabled him to last seven innings, keeping the White Sox within striking distance in their 5-3 comeback victory over the Cubs. It also...
