  13. Boys Athlete of the Week: Maurice White, St. Frances, basketball

    The senior guard-forward stepped up last week in a big way, leading the undefeated Panthers (10-0) to three quality wins that catapulted them to No. 1 in this week's Top 15 poll. The highlight for White came in the Panthers' 63-58 win over nationally ranked Travis (Texas) in the I-95 Elite Challenge at Loyola University on Friday. In the win, White finished with 19 points and nine rebounds to claim game Most Valuable Player honors. Travis came into the game ranked No. 13 in the USA Today Super 25 national poll. The victory capped an impressive week for White and the Panthers. On Monday, St. Frances defeated Princeton Day Academy, 72-66, with White totaling 19 points and eight rebounds. In Wednesday's showdown against No. 8 John Carroll, White finished with seven points and seven rebounds in a defensive-minded 40-39 win. White, who has committed to Loyola, is averaging 18.4 points and eight rebounds in his second season on varsity.
