1. Ultimately, Heat didn't fall for flop rule

Sunday notes: No Heat player, not even Shane Battier or Udonis Haslem, fell victim to the NBA's crackdown on flopping. Also: Some final Heat numbers; Cavs' curious coaching carousel; and better late than never?
A funny thing happened to the Miami Heat amid this season's NBA crackdown on flopping: nothing. A team with limited shot-blocking that relies on defensive positioning and taking charges was not cited for any of the 24 infractions recorded by the...

5. D-Wade — and others — come up short when dressing up

Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is leading millions of American men along the path of career destruction.
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is leading millions of American men along the path of career destruction. It wasn't his play against the Bulls in the NBA playoffs. It was his ridiculous suit, a purple polka dot number featuring skinny capri pants, showing...

7. Cubs, Sox can have success without winning

More than most Aprils in the city, baseball's opening day arrives open for interpretation.
More than most Aprils in the city, baseball's opening day arrives open for interpretation. Baseball romantics see the rebirth of something wonderful on both sides of town and anticipate a rush of summer babies named Robin or Theo. Baseball realists...

11. Rose out, but it's not because of Thibodeau

As Derrick Rose lay grimacing in pain on the United Center floor for several excruciating minutes Saturday, the fans in the crowd of 21,943 who weren't hyperventilating shouted encouragement.

13. In this NBA, it's brawn over brains and muscle that matters

It is always easier to be critical when you don't have a dog in the fight, so let's go ahead.
It is always easier to be critical when you don't have a dog in the fight, so let's go ahead. The NBA playoffs are in full swing. If we think hard, we in Los Angeles can remember what that's like. People flying purple flags out car windows. The Clippers...

15. For What It's Worth: January 28th

For What it’s Worth on this January 28 -- Thirteen teams in front of Wichita State lost seventeen times last week, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of bump they get in the national polls today. My guess is that they’ll come in at #15—the Shocks have two good RPI tests this week at home with Indiana State(55) on Tuesday and on the road with UNI(96) Saturday.

23. It's A Season of No Excuses

Maybe the NBA had the right plan in place after all. In a shortened season the opportunity for some team to catch a break or make one for themselves has been there. For the Indiana Pacers it has been about opportunity. After the dust settled on the regular season they found themselves holding down the number #3 seed for the NBA playoffs and the opportunity to go from rags-to-riches.
