1. Both Cubs and Red Sox in struggling mode

You think Dale Sveum and the Cubs have problems?
You think Dale Sveum and the Cubs have problems? Based on the level of angst mixed with the clubhouse oxygen, as well as the urgency to wring out every possible victory while improving with both the lineup and the starting rotation, the situation...

The World Baseball Classic is coming back next spring, and it's time for the U.S. to remember who invented the game.
The World Baseball Classic is coming back next spring, and it's time for the U.S. to remember who invented the game. While the chance to play against the best players in the world is a huge deal for the competitors and fans in places like Japan, Korea,...

5. Sox and Royals know rotations rule

Rick Hahn and Dayton Moore know one of the biggest realities of baseball and wasted no time acting upon it.
Rick Hahn and Dayton Moore know one of the biggest realities of baseball and wasted no time acting upon it. If you're going to go to the playoffs, you better have a strong starting rotation. Last year, eight of the 10 postseason teams were in the...

9. Reader Q&A: Mark Gonzales' White Sox mailbag

Ken Williams has the enviable position of seemingly being the only Chicago executive immune from the pressure to win and perform. In recent years we have seen all the Chicago franchises clean house. The Chairman needs to pocket his loyalty and let Williams go and bring in a new philosophy. I don't mean elevating Rick Hahn, either. There is a reason Hahn is still with the Sox. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing how wonderful is everyone in the Sox's organization. The chamber of commerce pitch delivered by those such as Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone and others is insulting to knowledgeable fans. How many more years do Sox fans have to tolerate more of the same? How many more years does Williams get? -- Mike Major; Granger, Ind.

11. Mark Gonzales' White Sox mailbag

What's your take on Dayan Viciedo's future with the organization in light of the Adam Dunn/Paul Konerko signings? No real opportunity for Dayan to get significant playing time at 1B or designated hitter now or in the foreseeable future. He doesn't really impress as a third baseman, where I think Morel will claim the job. Is there a chance Viciedo can play a passable outfielder, or is he now just trade bait? Given his age, wouldn't it be awfully risky (even for Kenny Williams) to trade him if he really has the ability to become a 25+ HR guy? -- Michael; Cape Elizabeth, Maine

15. From the Cubicle

It's come to this. Here's the deal: A White Sox victory today clinches the American League Central. If the Sox lose today, they can still clinch the division, if the Indians lose tonight. After that it gets confusing. Let's just say the only way the Sox...
