1. For Francona, The Love Returns

BOSTON — He loves the ballpark again. Not Fenway or Yankee Stadium or Progressive Field specifically — Terry Francona loves them all again.

BOSTON — He loves the ballpark again. Not Fenway or Yankee Stadium or Progressive Field specifically — Terry Francona loves them all again. "I get there absurdly early," he said Thursday. "I stay there absurdly late. I have no perspective."...

Talking baseball while wondering if the Blackhawks can be counter-punchers. 1. Baseball is back in Cleveland, thanks largely to Terry Francona. The first-place Indians host the Tigers tonight, and The Jake should be rocking. (Yes, I know Jacobs...

7. Your Morning Phil: 17-21, Almora, Astros

Talking baseball while hoping the Bulls can avoid leaking talent in the off-season. The White Sox have a new rallying cry, and it’s silly. Hey, we’re 17-21, look at us now! That was the talk coming out of the clubhouse and the broadcast...

9. Trading Marmol could fill a couple of Cubs holes

Reports say the Tigers are looking to trade for a closer. Hang loose, Carlos Marmol.
Reports say the Tigers are looking to trade for a closer. Hang loose, Carlos Marmol. I mean, didn’t the Cubs sign Kyuji Fujikawa precisely because they intended-slash-hoped-slash-tried to trade Marmol? In fact, the Cubs cut a deal with the...

11. White Sox GM Williams making all the right moves

It's never easy for Jerry Reinsdorf and the White Sox, but year after year they find ways to stretch the payroll and keep things interesting.

13. Sox's Sale should employ lesson well

You almost never can boil a baseball season down to one game, let alone one pitch. But when I break down what happened to the White Sox down the stretch in 2012, when a potentially great season for rookie manager Robin Ventura turned into a learning exercise, I find a clear turning point.

Does Jim Leyland have a flair for the dramatic? We're going to find out when he sets the Tigers' pitching rotation for next weekend's series against the White Sox. If he prioritizes the head-to-head meeting with the first-place Sox, we will get one of...

23. For What it's Worth: Do You Feel a Draft?

Isn’t it just the luck of the Chiefs that they own the top pick in a draft void of that one sure-fire superstar? A year after three potential all-pros were drafted early at quarterback, there may be only one taken in all the first round tomorrow and Geno Smith probably won’t start in his rookie season, let alone go to Hawaii. So, barring something crazy in a trade Kansas City will, most likely, draft an offensive tackle. Hey, you don’t always have to be sexy to be productive.
