1. A holiday with the "new" family takes priority

Happy post-Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have plenty to be thankful for and that you arrived at your turkey day destinations safely and sans hangover. A family friend of mine once gave me advice on juggling holiday time with my family and my future in-laws. She said, "Rachel, when you get married, you'll have three families: you, your husband and any children you may have; your family; and your husband's family. The family you create should always come first. The other two will understand."

  7. Future bride says "I don't" to Pastor-Dad

Dear Amy: I am getting married next summer to a wonderful man. During the planning it has come to my attention that my fiance would very much like his father, a minister, to officiate our wedding. I am opposed to this because I would like his father to be "Dad" on this special day and not the pastor. I have a difficult time differentiating between "Dad" and "Pastor-Dad."

Dear Amy: My boyfriend and I have been in a loving relationship for a little over a year. We are both teenagers and above the age of consent in our state (I am 16). We are very much in love and incredibly happy. Recently we had a couple of serious conversations about sex, and we decided to go ahead and do it.

  15. What to do when the wedding-planning meltdown begins

Inevitably, a bride-to-be has a meltdown or two and experiences a roller coaster of emotions during the whole planning process. My freak-out occurred a few weeks ago regarding the size of our wedding and the money we are spending on this celebration. The numbers add up.

  17. Let wedding guests eat cake, but which one?

Let's be honest, choosing the cake is probably the most exciting part of wedding planning. Okay, I should probably preface that by saying that I’m overly obsessed with food. When I’m eating breakfast, I’m already thinking about lunch and dinner. But even if you’re not a food lover like me or maybe desserts aren’t your thing (really, do people who don’t like dessert exist? I don’t think so) it’s still fun to meet with cake vendors, try samples, plan your design and pick a cake topper.
