  7. When the sun, and mayor, pop up for the arts

Each and every year in Chicago, there is a moment when the problems of the city seem to fall away and everything seems doable and winnable again. It is a moment inextricably tied to the weather. Spring always comes later than even the worst-case scenario. But there's always one day — an hour, even — when it finally arrives with such blazing force you know winter is dead and buried for the year. That's when a smart politician knows to pop up outdoors.

  11. A newbie's guide to Chicago Craft Beer Week

How much does Chicago love its beer? Our craft beer week is 11 days long, if that's any indication. The fourth annual Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 16-26) is busier than past years, with 21 new breweries joining the lineup of tastings, tap takeovers and $4 pint nights. The schedule can seem a bit intimidating to newcomers, so we've mapped out the ultimate calendar for those looking to dip their toes into Chicago's thriving beer world. If you're planning to attend multiple events, download the free Chicago Craft Beer Week app (chibeerweek.com), which has a complete listing of the more than 400 events, plus neighborhood guides and a function that tracks your attendance, earns you points and could win you some swag at the end of the week. My advice to first-timers? Check out a bar you've never been to, drink plenty of water and clear your week of morning meetings. <a href=&quot;mailto:kbernot@tribune.com">kbernot@tribune.com</a> | @redeyeeatdrink

  21. Remarkable Woman: Eunita Rushing

Eunita Rushing feels at home when she's near plants, so perhaps it's no surprise that since 1999 she has been the enthusiastic president of the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, which works in partnership with the Chicago Park District to raise funds and awareness for educational and public programs for the conservatory, located on the city's West Side.
