    Richard S. “Rebel” Holmes, 69, of Donegal, formerly of Somerset and Greensburg, passed on Feb. 6, 2012, at the In Touch Hospice House in Somerset. Born Sept. 11, 1942, in Greensburg, he is the son of the late Kenneth and Stephanie “Stella” (Kontetta) Holmes. He is also preceded in death by his dog Kayla. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Linda D. Holmes; daughters Rona M. Miller and husband Keith of Greensburg and Roxane Schiavone and husband Ralph of Irwin; granddaughter Rachel M. Oates and husband Michael of Delmont; grandson Ryan M. Schiavone of Irwin; great-grandchildren Amelia Mae and Lucas Evan Oates of Delmont; sister Loretta Rebo and husband Tony of Irwin; niece Renee Coles; nephew Anthony Rebo; and his wonderful and very best friends Pat Gary, and Terry and Anita Menear of Somerset. Rebel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member Masonic Lodge 358 in Somerset and had his 32nd degree from the Ancient and accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh. He was a 45 year member of the American Legion, currently posted in the Donegal Post 941, and a past member of Post 181, Somerset, and a life member of the VFW, currently posted in the Donegal VFW Post 6743, and a past member of Post 554 Somerset. He was a life member of the Kennell’s Mill Sportsmens’ Club in Hyndman, a member of the Jenner Rod and Gun Club, was a life member of the Penn Rod and Gun Club Inc. in Penn, Pa., and was a member of the American Legion Riders motorcycle club of Somerset. Rebel once served as a State Constable in Penn Township, Westmoreland County. He loved boating, hunting and fishing, riding his trike, and spending time with his family and friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, pastor Barry Ritenour officiating. Full military rites will be bestowed by the Somerset County Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be sent to In Touch Hospice at P.O. Box 1173 Somerset, PA 15501.
