3. Jersey Governor Weeps After Meeting Springsteen

<span style="font-size: small;">In yet another case of politics making strange bedfellows, Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, the man who delivered the keynote address for Mitt Romney at the Republican National Convention, was driven to tears after meeting and hugging his lifelong hero, Bruce Springsteen, an ardent supporter of President Barack Obama and a sometime critic of Christie. Of course what brought these two together was the common goal of helping their fellow New Jersey residents struggling to rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Gov. Christie told a group of volunteers “that the hug was great and that when we got home there was a lot of weeping because of the hug.”

  5. Nugent Goes Ballistic On Reporter

<span style="font-size: small;">Rabid conservative and avid hunter “Terrible” Ted Nugent took direct aim at CBS This Morning reporter Jeff Glor, and umbrage at the interviewer’s insinuation that he was many things, but not moderate. Glor made the point that if Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney- whom Nugent has endorsed - was to win the White House, he needed to sew up the moderate vote. Nugent took serious issue with Glor’s perception of him being anything but a moderate voice and roared into a rant aimed at Glor and a CBS producer standing off camera. Glor later reported that Nugent apologized for his reaction and added that he underwent surgery to remove a kidney stone later that day and that his physical discomfort may have contributed to his verbal assault. Watch the one-way heated “exchange” here.

  23. Oklahoma's tornado and political cheap shots

It's as predictable as it is disheartening: A red state gets <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-oklahoma-tornado-rebuild-moore-20130521,0,3997446.story">hit hard by a tornado outbreak -- in this case killing at least 24 people, many of them children attending school -- and the first batch of letters from readers (most of them from Southern California) use the tragedy to score political points. Sure, many of the letters express heartfelt condolences, but not without landing some political punches before signing off. It's as if Americans who dwell in disaster-prone areas don't have a right to believe in low taxes and smaller government.
