  1. Jack's Excels at Breakfast Fare

Jack's Country Restaurant is a quaint breakfast joint located in the heart of Haddam's Higganum Center, nestled between a bank and pizza restaurant. With friendly service, excellent food (who doesn't love breakfast?) and wallet-friendly prices, Jack's is worth the ride from anywhere.

  5. Dining review: Larkin's in Eagle Rock has a southern soul

Tucked on a corner in Eagle Rock, across a side street from a pink diner with its own towering billboard, the brown bungalow doesn't look like much. Its roof is beginning to tatter, there's nearly no parking, and the few tables outside are made from old doors painted and put on their sides in one last stop before the scrap yard. (Actually a nice, colorful touch.)

  11. Restaurant review: New Miss Shirley's is a hit in Annapolis

By now, it's safe to say Miss Shirley's has Southern cuisine down to a science, regardless of the location.

  15. Finding good soul food in New Haven

I'm 28 and, in this world, not surprisingly, a virgin at pretty few things, except probably paying retail for anything and soul food. While researching the difference between soul food and barbecue, I came across the following helpful clarification courtesy of the Learning Channel: "not all Southern food is soul food, but all soul food is definitely southern."
