1. Recipe: Basque-style chicken

Chicken breasts have a bad reputation -- too often they're considered nothing but diet food, and dried-out diet food at that. But that's the fault of the cook, not the ingredient. The challenge of a chicken breast is that it's uneven, fat on one end...

  3. Cayenne Cafe chicken dish puts spotlight on pomegranate

Dear SOS: There is a neighborhood restaurant on Beverly Boulevard, just west of La Brea, called Cayenne Cafe. An outstanding dish is its grilled chicken with pomegranate-walnut sauce. It is the most delicious sauce -- I could eat it alone. I would love it if you could get the recipe and publish it.

  11. Mother's Day menu: Quick and easy meal to make at home

This is a favorite easy-to-make menu from the Orlando Sentinel test kitchen files. The Chicken With Prosciutto & Havarti Cheese makes a nice presentation when served with instant brown rice, a baby spinach salad, fresh fruit (we think watermelon pairs nicely). Have some sparkling wine chilled to toast mom at the top of the meal and serve her favorite white wine with dinner. If there is room for dessert, home baked cookies or a bakery treat do the trick.

  17. How to pair wine

When cooking with wine (in the food, not merely in the cook), longtime pairing advice had it to "Serve the same wine that you use in the recipe." Something about mirroring flavors, I suppose, but not always a wise suggestion, especially when, as in this recipe, so little wine is used anyway.

Asian food aficionados probably think they’re living next door to nirvana these days. No longer does the crowd have to agree on one type of fare. With the current trend in Far East-style eateries, most everyone can be satisfied.
