  1. Get food, faster; not fast food

    Tribune reporter
Despite my love of slow food, my frantic weekday schedule requires that I get it fast. Luckily I've latched on to a few tricks designed to deliver good food without the wait. • Make big portions of slow-cooking staples on Sunday for the rest of...

  3. Fried Shrimp!

Who can forget Forrest Gump's lovable "best good friend," Bubba? Without him, we'd probably never be so familiar with the countless ways to prepare shrimp: barbecued, boiled, broiled, baked, sauteed, shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo.

  5. The worst food in America

    Dining@Large
This is such a good Funtastic Thursday from Owl Meat that I'm going to let him get away with shilling his blog not once but twice in one entry AND publish another weird photo that looks like he created it......

  7. Family dining in Chicago

There is loads of good food in Chicago. Much of the city's signature food, including deep-dish pizza and Chicago-style hot dogs, has innate kid-appeal. Whatever you do, try to avoid eating at Navy Pier; the food is overpriced and uniformly mediocre. Take a picnic instead (Fox & Obel market is just two blocks from the Pier and offers delicious prepared foods).

  9. The ticket to mall success

    Sun Staff
The hot spot this summer in Columbia for dining and entertainment is at the mall. Business is booming at The Mall in Columbia's open-air entertainment plaza: the group of three freestanding restaurants and the AMC movie theater that opened in December....

First in a series of occasional articles PEORIA, Ill. -- It's a tricky business, taking the pulse of Peoria. As in any town, opinions vary -- from the tugboat operators guiding barges up the Illinois River to the fresh-faced boys, lean as cornstalks,...

  13. Weighing in on Chicago dining

    Times Staff Writer
This is one of my favorite places to gain weight. For years, I have visited the birthplace of my mother and happily put on pounds. Slabs of juicy Midwestern steak at Morton's of Chicago and Gene & Georgetti. Pies at Pizzeria Uno so layered with sausage...
