  9. George M. Kurtz: Feb. 3, 1915 - Dec. 29, 2010

    George M. Kurtz, 95, passed away on Dec. 29, 2010, at Heritage Place in Owensboro. Formerly from Sturgis in Union County, Mr. Kurtz was an auctioneer, businessman and farmer. Born Feb. 3, 1915, on a farm near Buckeye 25 miles south of Lexington to Hugh M. and Lucy Kelly Burton Kurtz, he was the youngest of four children. George entered the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1933. At UK, he was a Danforth Scholar, a member of the 1937 champion SEC UK Livestock Judging Team along with Harlan Veal. Kurtz was also president of Block and Bridle, vice president of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and graduated with a B.S. degree from the College of Agriculture in 1937.
