  3. Robert S. Stahl: March 16

    Mr. Robert S. Stahl, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully in O’Brien’s Memorial Health Care Center in Masury, Ohio, on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. He was 95 years old. Mr. Stahl was born on April 19, 1915, in Berlin, to his parents Joseph Stahl and Martha McLuckie Stahl. Mr. Stahl graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a degree in education and later completed a master’s degree in industrial education from Penn State University. Robert first began teaching in a United Presbyterian Mission in Kentucky, then in Somerset County. On Aug. 8, 1942, Mr. Stahl married Ethel Glessner Stahl who survives. Mr. Stahl moved to the Sharon area in 1945, and began teaching shop and mechanical drawing in the Sharon School District, retiring in 1977. Mr. Stahl was very active in his church, the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, having been a member since 1946. Mr. Stahl served the church as a Deacon, a Trustee, an Elder, and sang in the church Sanctuary Choir for 57 years; also serving as a substitute organist. Mr. Stahl was also a past president of Hermitage Rotary Club, a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, Pennsylvania State Retirees Association, National Education Association, and the AARP of the Shenango Valley. Mr. Stahl was also well-known for his abilities as a carpenter and hand built many items for the church, his friends, and his family. He also enjoyed traveling and had visited every continent except for Antarctica, and had been to 30 Elderhostels. Mr. Stahl is survived by his wife; Ethel Glessner Stahl; two daughters; Nancy Myers and her husband Kenneth of The Villages, Fla.; Marilyn Hayden and her husband William of New Bern, N.C.; a son; James Stahl and his wife Linda of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; four granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Margaret Stahl, Helen Hollyday; and a half-sister; Centurena Countryman.  Funeral service were held on Saturday March 19, 2011, in Sharon. Donations may be made to the memorial fund of the church or to the Shenango Valley Community Library; 11 N. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or to a fund of the donor’s choice.
