  1. Danville-Boyle County Pets of the Week for April 23, 2013

    Our featured pets this week are Abby and Amanda. Abby is a beautiful, adult tortoiseshell cat. Abby is a sweet and affectionate girl, but like many kitties, she prefers to do her socializing on her own terms. Abby seems to like more quiet surroundings and enjoys her cat naps so a family without small children would fit her needs perfectly. Won’t you come and meet this pretty kitty and see if she’s a good match for your home?

  3. Early training imperative for a new puppy

    Puppies are playful, cute and cuddly. On the other hand, puppies are also loud, messy and destructive. It is important to understand that your first night with your new puppy is his first night away from his mother and siblings. Up until now, your puppy was dependent on his mother for food, protection and comfort.

  9. Some dogs need their space

    Is your dog a <a href=&quot;https://www.facebook.com/pages/DINOS-Dogs-in-Need-of-Space/251550661567160">DINOS</a>? The acronym hasn&rsquo;t quite caught on yet, but it stands for Dog in Need of Space. Coined by Maine dogwalker Jessica Dolce, the term is used to describe dogs who don&rsquo;t like being approached by other dogs or strange people -- they need space to be comfortable.

  13. Dogs just wanna have fun

    I keep mentioning in this column that dog owners should have fun with their dogs. So then I hear that house pets don&rsquo;t know how to play, they just sleep or gnaw on a bone. This makes me ask, &ldquo;What is the difference between play and having fun?&rdquo;

  15. Are "cattuccinos" and dog lattes poison?

    I will be the first to admit that I don&rsquo;t know the difference between an espresso and a cappuccino. I don&rsquo;t understand what a latte is and I certainly don&rsquo;t speak French. Sometimes, I even have a difficult time ordering coffee at certain establishments since I&rsquo;m not very well versed in the newest &ldquo;fancy&rdquo; modern day coffee drinks.

    Cathy Hudson knew the practice of raising chickens in her backyard made her part of a growing suburban trend, but when she learned Williams-Sonoma, purveyor of pricey kitchen gear, had started selling chicken coops &mdash; including a two-level cedar model for $1,499.95 &mdash; she thought, &quot;OK, we have arrived."
