Baltimore's Kennedy Krieger Institute is an internationally known facility that focuses on research and education related to pediatric developmental disabilities. Faculty and researchers at Kennedy Krieger focus on various specializations, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, feeding disorders, learning disabilities and spinal cord injuries. Baltimore's Kennedy Krieger Institute is an internationally known facility that focuses on research and education related to pediatric developmental disabilities. Faculty and researchers at Kennedy Krieger focus on various specializations, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, feeding disorders, learning disabilities and spinal cord injuries. Institute experts in various fields provide professional training across the United States and abroad. In addition to ongoing research, the institute operates more than 40 outpatient clinics around Baltimore, inpatient units for several disorders, and community programs to provide services to families. Kennedy Krieger Institute's Department of Special Education offers day-school programs to students aged 3-21 with a wide range of disabilities at their Fairmount, Greenspring and Montgomery County campuses. The institute also maintains The Resource Network that shares resources and research on development disabilities including autism and related disorders across Maryland. The institute's largest fundraising effort is the Festival of Trees, which displays more than 300 decorated trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses designed by local artists, businesses and community groups. Awards are given out and display items are sold, with the proceeds going to Kennedy Krieger Institute research, treatment and education programs.
