  1. Zoo Ball surprise: The Village People

Against the backdrop of roaring lions and tigers, the Women's Board of Lincoln Park Zoo hosted its 35th annual Zoo Ball July 13th. The rain didn't dampen the spirits of more than 1,100 black-tie clad guests as they mixed and mingled in three adjoining tents on the zoo grounds. "This evening's theme, 'The Great Catsby' acknowledges the beauty of the world's big cats and invites guests to experience a grand time with friends who share a love of our wild animals," said Zoo President and CEO Kevin Bell.

Correction: This story was updated to reflect the correct spelling of Wylie Park. We regret the error. It is a mammoth project to paint the Village Bowl exterior, but manager Cliff Kuckelburg and his staff are tackling it on their own. Once every 10...

  7. R.I.P. Donna Summer (1948-2012)

<span style=&quot;font-size: medium;">Disco may have started out its brief life as dance music promoted by DJs in gay NYC clubs, where it was difficult to find live bands who would actually show up and play. As it gained strength in the late &rsquo;70s, it slapped lingering hippie sensibilities right in the face; this was music for dancing, not for introspection. Let&rsquo;s not sit around contemplating the greatness of artists. Let&rsquo;s do a line, get up and shake our asses until we collapse, then do another one and keep going.</span>

  9. Orlando Fringe review: 'Still Alive'

The members of the Downtowners choir may not be all there. They may miss a high note here and there, or drop a lyric. But if you don&rsquo;t at least crack a smile at &ldquo;Still Alive,&rdquo; you might not be fully alive yourself.

The government is debating whether or not to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the U.S. military's 17-year-old policy prohibiting openly gay and lesbian servicemen and women from serving in the military. Some say that the military would benefit from the...

  17. I'm Just Sayin': Adults still need to accept gay culture

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I had dinner with a group of my friends, some of whom I hadn't seen in almost 20 years. If you had happened to see us all chatting and laughing, you'd quickly realize that we really enjoy each other's company, but you might also notice one other thing &mdash; that I was the only woman there that evening. That's because everyone else, except my husband and me, was gay.

  19. Mailbag: City needs to invest in safer driving

  21. Saturday Snapshot: Gene Simmons opens Rock & Brews in El Segundo

The party was already plenty glam, especially for El Segundo. Tall, beautiful women everywhere. Free-flowing booze and plates of hot sausages. Rock stars from Velvet Revolver and the Village People. Lots of &ndash; maybe too much &ndash; leather. And then Gene Simmons appeared.

  23. Tale of the tape: Brady vs. Flacco
