7. Movie Review: Skyfall

Skyfall is the latest James Bond film and number 23 overall in the series. Daniel Craig returns for his third turn as the British secret agent 007 for director Sam Mendes. Aside from Craig, the film boasts an A-list cast with the likes of Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, and Ralph Fiennes. The film's release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series, which began with Dr. No in 1962.

9. 'Skyfall': James Bond still going at 50 ★★★ 1/2

Early on in his stage career, director Sam Mendes worked with Dame Judi Dench on a production of "The Cherry Orchard." Now they have reteamed for a slightly less Chekhovian project: the 23rd official James Bond film (24th if you count the Sean Connery off-brander "Never Say Never Again"). It's the seventh featuring Dench as M, Bond's steely handler, and more to the box office point, the third featuring Daniel Craig as 007, the licensed and, in fact, bonded killer.

11. Keeping 007 relevant in a changed world

NEW YORK — Early in "Skyfall," Judi Dench's M pulls aside our embattled hero, played once again with suave ennui by Daniel Craig, and wonders whether the world still needs either of their services. As Bond wraps his head around that idea, he looks...

13. Hollywood legend Dick Zanuck: a princeling who earned his stripes

When Dick Zanuck and I had lunch last month, it would’ve been impossible to imagine that the veteran producer would be gone six weeks later. Zanuck, who was 77 when he died Friday at his home in Beverly Hills, looked at least a decade younger and had the energy of an Olympic marathoner. Long before everyone in showbiz became a fitness nut, Zanuck was doing serious workouts, lifting weights, taking long jogs and, in his later years, swimming laps.

21. In touring 'La Cage,' mascara runs and hearts bulge

THEATER REVIEW: "La Cage Aux Folles" at the Bank of America Theatre ★★★½ ... The current touring production offers a refreshingly gritty holiday attraction for those who prefer to see Christmas from a different angle.
In the real world, about 30 years separates the two stars of the current touring production of "La Cage Aux Folles," the first national outing, so to speak, of Terry Johnson's formidably distinctive 2010 Broadway revival, which originated at the...

23. The virtues of setting and shooting a film in Connecticut

A number of high-profile dramas have been shot and set amongst the immaculately manicured lawns and well-preserved historical homes of the Connecticut suburbs, among them Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road, the movie Kate Winslet should have won the Oscar for, and (although not explicitly stated) Douglas Sirk's All That Heaven Allows, in which Rock Hudson does a bang-up job of looking like he's actually into women (in this case Jane Wyman).
