1. Theater review: 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)'

In the past week I've had two acquaintances tell me that Shakespeare just isn't their thing. "It's so boring," one whispered shamefacedly. "Oh, the language!" another boldly exclaimed. "Who can understand it?"

  3. Lollapalooza 2012 Preview

No matter how the next three days unfold, on Monday you will probably be hard pressed to find someone who will tell you they had a bad time at Lollapalooza. That is not a comment on the festival's 2012 lineup or a reminder of past successes, it's just true. Fun-having is practically mandatory at Lollapalooza, or any music festival for that matter. Patrick Stickles, punk genius and lead singer of New Jersey band Titus Andronicus touched on this at their 2011 Lollapalooza show. Addressing the fans who weren't dancing, he said, “We love you too. Having fun shouldn't be a contest.”

    Turn It Up

  7. Heartless 'Titus Andronicus' driven by revenge

If the crime rate spikes in Howard County, blame Shakespeare. The Bard's most violent play, "Titus Andronicus," is being staged by the Laurel-based theater company Rude Mechanicals at the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City.

  11. Festapalooza features bands from the tri-state area, April 20 at Quinnipiac University's Burt Kahn Court

Come one, come all, Quinnipiac student or not, to QU's first music festival. Festapalooza, which features a smattering of bands from under the tri-state area stamp, looks like a really fun time. For $5, you will experience Titus Andronicus, Bomb the Music Industry, the Guru, Great Caesar, the Midnighters and, my personal favorite, the Front Bottoms (pictured). Did you miss the Front Bottoms at Lilly's Pad earlier this year? Or at the Webster in Hartford a couple weeks ago? They won't be playing around here all the time forever, you know. If you're a Quinnipiac student, this show is free for you. In addition to the music, this fest is completed by local Hamden food vendors and hourly raffles.

  13. Baltimore hip hop duo AK Slaughter share their likes and dislikes

AK Slaughter, the dual voices of Emily Slaughter and Aran Keating, have been making music in Baltimore since their college days at Goucher, mixing fast with slow and musical simplicity with quirky complexity. Their answers for this week’s Like/Dislike are almost as entertaining as their sharp lyrics and funky beats. Don’t miss them at the Fifth Annual All Rap Round Robin at 9 p.m. Friday at Floristree, featuring 12 different talents. They’ll be releasing their new split EP with RapDragons there.

  19. Lollapalooza Day 3: Rain, more rain, and a Foo Fighters finale

Lollapalooza 2011 is a wrap with record daily attendance (90,000), adding up to the most populated festival in North America (270,000) over the three-day weekend. Here’s an hour-by-hour account of Sunday’s action, once again from yours truly (GK) and my invaluable colleague Bob Gendron (BG):

  21. Lollapalooza 2011 Recap

In the months between the release of Lollapalooza's 2011 lineup, and the festival's 20th anniversary this past weekend, general consensus was that the festival had gone mainstream. The festival's playful title may have felt almost like a smirking misnomer when Living Colour and the Rollins Band were filling out the days. But in recent years it has settled into its name the same way it has settled comfortably in between the skyline and lakefront. So if it's not the cutting edge indie haven on wheels that it once was, chalk it up to the passing of time. Nothing can stay exactly the same and sustain itself for two decades.
