1. Ford & Lopatin's synthesizer Games-manship

Pop & Hiss
The electronica Ford & Lopatin plays a release party for "Channel Pressure" at the Echoplex tonight. Those fearing a surplus of MIDI might want to steer clear, but for the rest of us, it might be useful reminder that music can be funny and seriously...

5. Wayne Coyne at Estelles and Debonair last night?

Bucktown / Wicker Park
That's right. Wayne went for the classics last night in Wicker Park. He dropped into Debonair for their weekly Wednesday burlesque night and then Estelles to admire some artwork. Pretty good way to spend a Wednesday night in the ‘hood. You never...

15. Watch this now: Frank Ocean, 'Acura Integurl'

Frank Ocean's soon-to-be-rereleased album, Nostalgia, Ultra., is a grower. When I first heard it in March, it seemed like a better-than-average debut a few rare flashes of brilliance. But I wasn't bowled over. For every slick no-brainer ("Novacane," "Songs For Women"), there was a strange, off-putting decision lurking ("Strawberry Swing" samples Coldplay; "American Wedding" inexpicably reinterprets the Eagles' "Hotel California"). But the more time spent with Nostalgia, the more likeable Ocean becomes as a singer, and more importantly, a storyteller. Another encouraging sign: he hasn't slowed down in releasing new material.

19. Live review: Glasser at the Troubadour

Pop & Hiss
For having released a debut album that could ostensibly be played on loop into infinity, Glasser sure is a fan of the short set. At Cameron Mesirow's big victory-lap show Wednesday at the Troubadour following the release of "Ring," she......

21. Cover story: L.A.'s club scene: A house divided

Brand X
Head to a club or turn on the radio, and it quickly becomes apparent that electronic dance music has fully infiltrated the mainstream. The sounds of electro, trance and house music throb out of Angelenos' iPods and car radios — and the subwoofers of...
