  3. Doors Drummer Densmore to Dish Dirt in Memoir

    <span style=&quot;font-size: small;">The bitter legal battle between Doors drummer John Densmore and his former bandmates and friends Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger will be described in great detail in Densmore&rsquo;s ominously titled forthcoming tell-all memoir The Doors: Unhinged &ndash; Jim Morrison&rsquo;s Legacy Goes on Trial, available via Amazon April 17. In a press release announcing the book, Densmore delves into the thorny subject of the band&rsquo;s music being &ldquo;used to push cars or cigarettes.&rdquo; And in a recent editorial for the Nation, he wrote, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m pretty clear that we shouldn&rsquo;t do it. We don&rsquo;t need the money. But I get such pressure from one particular bandmate (the one who wears glasses and plays keyboards). If I learned anything from Jim, it&rsquo;s respect for what we created.&rdquo;</span>

  5. Krieger Says Door is Always Open to Densmore for Reunion

    During a radio interview while promoting The Doors concert DVD Live at the Bowl &rsquo;68, guitarist Robby Krieger offered an olive branch to disgruntled drummer John Densmore in the hope that a reunion between the two and keyboardist Ray Manzarek one day might happen. Krieger said, &ldquo;I hope [we reunite]. I&rsquo;m sure he [Densmore] will at some point. Ray and John&hellip;both wrote these books&hellip;and we ended up having a lawsuit about using the name, The Doors, and so there&rsquo;s a lot of bad blood there. But I hope they&rsquo;ll grow up and make up and then one day we&rsquo;ll be able to play together.&rdquo;

  11. Ray Manzarek: X's Exene Cervenka, John Doe remember a friend

    The music that keyboardist Ray Manzarek made as part of the Doors helped define the 1960s, and also was a crucial part of the Southern California music scene in the latter half of that decade. Two generations of L.A. music met in the late 1970s when Manzarek connected with punk band X to produce the group's first four studio albums. The band's songwriters and lead singers, Exene Cervenka and bassist John Doe, reflect on the music of the Doors and their relationship with Manzarek, who died Monday at 74 of cancer.

    Though Jim Morrison drew much of the attention (and nearly all of the eyeballs), Ray Manzarek of the Doors did as much as any of his bandmates to define the sound of the legendary L.A. group, which helped push 1960s rock to trippy new extremes.
