White Christmases have been so rare in Little Rock, Ark., that you could almost count them on both hands since recordkeeping began in 1875. Hard winters, after all, visit this part of the South somewhat infrequently.

  5. Fat Babies rekindle the Jazz Age in Chicago

Out on the dance floor, young couples are throwing off dance steps right out of the Roaring Twenties: the Charleston, the fox trot, the shimmy.

  11. A very full load of nominees for this year's Equity Jeff Awards

Apparently confronted by a plethora of riches in the past season of Chicago theater, the Joseph Jefferson Awards Committee offered up not the traditional four or five nominees one finds at the Tony Awards, for instance, but a bevy of nominees for its annual awards. In the case of best Equity production in Chicago last year, the committee came up a whopping 18 nominees, divided between "large" and "midsized" companies. And that doesn't even include the musicals.

  17. Interview: 'Homeland' star Mandy Patinkin's passion? Singing

Yes, Mandy Patinkin saw "Saturday Night Live" spoof "Homeland" in a sketch this month. And no, the South Side native and Kenwood Academy High School alum wasn't insulted by Bill Hader's impression of him or the exaggerated impersonations of his "Homeland" co-stars. Patinkin, like much of the public, thought the sketch was funny.
