1. Dixie Chick Uncertain About Return To Country

<span style="font-size: small;">Natalie Maines will reunite with The Dixie Chicks to perform at Canadian country music festival Calgary Stampede this summer. CMT caught up with Natalie recently to ask her how she’s feeling about country music, after years of tension with some of the genre’s fans. “You know what? It’s, it’s kinda like going back to your abusive husband. I’m just not feeling it I’m sorry.” Natalie plans to release a solo album, co-produced by singer-songwriter Ben Harper. The title track, “Mother,” is a Pink Floyd cover and sets the tone for what Natalie says is something very different from her Chicks music. Look for that one to hit stores on May 7th.

  3. Dixie Chicks Ready For A Comeback?

<span style="font-size: small;">The future of the Dixie Chicks still remains uncertain after Natalie Maines sat down with her pal Howard Stern to discuss the group recently. She tells the talk-show host that she doesn’t “feel like it’s the Dixie Chicks time.” She added, “I feel like things were tainted permanently. So, I struggle with going out on five Grammys or going out – petering out.” Natalie also confesses that it’s scary to think about the power country music fans have after the group’s infamous onstage comment about President George W. Bush in 2003. Either way - Natalie is “still in the Dixie Chicks” and they “haven’t broken up!” The group will make a couple of rare live appearances this summer.

  9. Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale mix styles and fun at Lincoln Hall

Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale made proficiency look easy Wednesday at a crowded Lincoln Hall. The Nashville outlaws and longtime friends staged a clinic in mixing country, R&B, rockabilly and other Americana-related styles on tunes notable for their simplicity and familiarity. In between songs, the duo exchanged comedic banter and stories, reinforcing a casual modesty that gave the 95-minute concert the laidback feeling of a private back-porch session.

  13. 'West of Memphis': Trio still seeking justice ★★★

For astonishing injustice put to rest, at long last, the moviegoer has at least two options. One: "Les Miserables." And two: "West of Memphis," a strong, blood-boiling documentary from director Amy Berg, who made the similarly fine "Deliver Us From Evil," about a defrocked Catholic priest's appalling crimes and those of his protectors.

    *** (out of four)
