1. Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford on Nov. 13

Seattle-based songwriter Jesse Sykes and her band the Sweet Hereafter (pictured) arrive at Wadsworth Atheneum's Aetna Theater on Sunday, the latest in a string of Manic Productions shows (recent offerings have included the Besnard Lakes, the Album Leaf and Xiu Xiu). Sykes and guitarist Phil Wandscher crafted the dark, complex songs on Marble Son, their latest, self-produced release, influenced in part by an association with Los Angeles art-metal label Southern Lord and bands like Boris and SunnO))) (check out the 2006 album Altar, on which Sykes sang and co-wrote the "The Sinking Belle"). Psych-country rockers the Sadies open things up.
