1. National tour of 'American Idiot' hits Baltimore

“American Idiot,” the 2010 Broadway hit musical — the first punk rock opera, really — now at the Hippodrome, paints a searing portrait of restless, reckless youth, with all the sex, drugs and violence you’d expect from a disaffected generation.

5. A brief guide to Green Day

Before Green Day won over Broadway with an ambitious anti-war album, it was a simple-minded punk trio from Berkeley with an album called "Dookie" and song titles such as "Geek Stink Breath" and "Words I Might Have Ate." While the band's sound has...

THEATER REVIEW: "American Idiot" at the Cadillac Palace Theatre ★★½
Some things have happened to Johnny, Tunny and St. Jimmy since "American Idiot" was last in Chicago in February 2012. The Equity actors who were playing those roles in the first national tour of the Green Day musical were dismissed and replaced by a non-...

17. Eric Clapton and Green Day Lit Up Mohegan Sun Arena Last Weekend

On two consecutive nights last weekend, Eric Clapton and Green Day played two very different shows at Mohegan Sun Arena, both to sell-out crowds. Clapton was up first on Friday, but Green Day was already in town and were spotted checking out the guitar legend's set. Renee Zellweger was also seen in the crowd — she's dating Clapton's second guitarist Doyle Bramhall II.

19. Green Day Plays Mohegan Sun Arena on April 6

Green Day hails from the East Bay, formed in 1987 in one of the most explosive punk scenes there ever was, centered around the 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley, Cailfornia. And then they got really famous. Unfortunately, the scene they burst out of frowned upon such things and gave them a hard time about it, causing some hometown drama. They countered the protesting by getting even huger. They sold 75 million records. A couple of years ago they even scored a hit Broadway show, American Idiot. A few months ago, Billie Joe Armstrong got drunk, freaked out and talked shit on stage at some lame music festival in Vegas. We didn't really mind, but he went to rehab anyway, and their tour was postponed. The Mohegan Sun show was rescheduled for this Saturday, and we don't care about the apologies so much as that they still play catchy pop punk songs we can shamelessly jump around to.

21. Green Day sharpens focus at packed Allstate Arena

Bands that have already existed for 25 years and sold tens of millions of records normally don't need to prove much onstage. The scenario was different for Green Day Thursday at a packed Allstate Arena, where the trio performed an energetic 125-minute show originally scheduled for early January. The event doubled as a coming-out party for both freshly sober vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and the group, whose future appeared cloudy after a series of adverse episodes.

23. SXSW 2013: Depeche Mode and Green Day make use of the fest

AUSTIN, Texas -- Big bands in small venues -- it's become a ritual at the South by Southwest music festival, where even A-list rock stars recognize the opportunity to launch a new project or heal a wounded reputation. But if Depeche Mode and Green Day found themselves Friday night in venues a fraction of the size of those they normally play, neither group pared down its show to accommodate the cozy environment.
