1. 21 Jump Street

It’s not like I thought Jonah Hill would come off an Oscar nominated performance in Moneyball (it wasn’t deserved), and start doing serious roles. This is the perfect vehicle for him. He wrote, produced, and starred in this film that takes its name from the TV show, but is nothing like it. It’s just a wacky comedy in The Other Guys style (which only had a few laughs, too).

“What are you people, on dope?!”
Fox 5 San Diego staff
“What are you people, on dope?!” This was said by Mr. Hand in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and it needs to be said about the critics knocking this lovely French film. And I hate most French films. Audrey Tautou wooed everyone in Amelie (a...

5. The workplace can enrich our lives or drive us crazy

Some years back, I found a letter in my mailbox at The Sun addressed to Jeanne Moreau, the iconic French actress of the 1950s and '60s, in Paris — a rather glamorous and mysterious missive, given that the bulk of my correspondence tends to come from PR people or prisoners.

7. 'Declaration of War' review: Your heart may not be able to handle it

***1/2 (out of four)
***1/2 (out of four) The exhilarating “Declaration of War” features exciting, romantic moments, but it is not a romance. The French film offers intense, unimaginable heartache, but it is not a tragedy. The story of Romeo (co-writer Jeremie...

Critics are idiots.
Critics are idiots. Now usually when I say that, it’s to complain about them praising a horrible French film. This time it’s for the bad reviews Contraband is getting. Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a great picture. It’s...

13. Remarkable Woman: Christine Sneed

Christine Sneed has spent much of her life writing—short stories, mostly, and poetry. And for nearly 20 years, her rewards were small. Some were published in prestigious literary journals, but many more didn't make it.

19. Top films of 2011 go back in time, and many find success

The very best movies of the past year went back to the earliest years of cinema for their subject matter, but 100 or so years amount to just a few film frames when you consider that some of the other movies in this 10-best list went back to the dawn of time for their stories.
