1. Moonrise Kingdom

There are people that love Wes Anderson movies and people that hate them. I lean more towards the hate, but he’s done a few good films. It’s just odd that he always has the same approach, and I wish he’d mix things up a bit. It’s always 60s songs, lots of color, and Bill Murray or a Wilson brother.

3. Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding

It would’ve been a better movie if Jane Fonda, who doesn’t do a lot of films these days, was cast as a political activist and hippie that wasn’t just a caricature. The tie-dye shirts and painting nude portraits of Iggy Pop (that cameo ranks up there with the one we saw of Edward Norton in The Dictator).

5. Reel Critics: 'Rock of Ages' full of energy and fun

The pop music of the 1980s was full of Rock 'n' Roll anthems void of any deep meaning or political activism. Bands like Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and the Scorpions filled arenas with loud but melodic hit songs. Most were about partying too hard, but the bands' softer love songs expanded their fan base.

7. Film review: Joss Whedon brings together 'The Avengers'

If you've seen the predecessors to “The Avengers” — “Iron Man” (2008), the Edward Norton version of “The Incredible Hulk” (2008), “Iron Man 2” (2010), “Thor” (2011) and “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011) — part of the new entry's fun is seeing how each of those films' central characters reacts when demoted from sole hero to just another ingredient in a superhero stew. If you haven't seen them, that particular thrill may be lost, but you can still follow the plot well enough to take a good guess at our heroes' back stories.
If you've seen the predecessors to “The Avengers” — “Iron Man” (2008), the Edward Norton version of “The Incredible Hulk” (2008), “Iron Man 2” (2010), “Thor” (2011) and “Captain...

15. Film review: 'The Avengers' fun movie but won't save the world

Superhero fans have been waiting for "The Avengers" since "Iron Man" in 2008. Since then, all the films featuring Avengers have included hints and references to the characters' upcoming collaboration. Some say what we've gotten is four years of commercials. I say it's been four years of building anticipation. The problem is that the film now has to deliver on four years' worth of hype. It's an OK blockbuster, but the bar is set so high that it can't help but be disappointing.

The culmination of everything ever written, produced or imagined in the known universe, or something like that,"The Avengers"bunches together Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, the leather-clad assassin Black Widow, the lethal archer Hawkeye and the superheroes’ one-eyed wrangler, Nick Fury, for 143 minutes of stylish mayhem in the service of defeating Thor’s malevolent brother, the god Loki, who hails from the interstellar world known as Asgard (access through wormhole only), and who yearns to conquer Earth with an all-powerful blue energy cube called the Tesseract.
