  1. 'Prey for Rock and Roll'

    Times Staff Writer
Gina Gershon is one of the best escape artists in movies. Graced with unassuming talent and a pugnaciously beautiful face, the actress has over the course of her storied career developed the curious ability to emerge from duds like "Showgirls" not...

  3. Summer Movie Preview

It has been suggested that summer has already begun at the cineplexes, with the huge opening for ``The Scorpion King." Whether The Rock has legs as well as arms will be seen. But well before Memorial Day, the traditional start of summer, the long season for big movies surely commences on Friday with the arrival of ``Spider-Man."

  5. 'I Capture the Castle'

"I Capture the Castle" is a singular experience. It's a rich, emotional story, a wonderfully appealing film made with humor and intelligence, but there is also something almost magical about how it takes the stuff of innumerable previous films — love, romance and adolescent coming of age — and turns them into something that feels one of a kind.

  7. 'First Daughter'

It's election time, which for first daughters and their opponents means it's time to get trotted out by mom and dad and get taken down by the press. Obligingly, the incumbents giggled and told incoherent stories at their dad's convention, and one of their challengers got an embarrassing picture snapped of her at Cannes. As the Bush twins no doubt already know and the Kerry girls may soon find out, being the first daughter is like a fairy tale — one in which little girls get locked in cages and poked with a long, green finger.

  9. Movie review: 'Prey for Rock & Roll'

    Special to the Tribune
3 stars (out of 4) Women in rock have not been treated kindly by the movies. They've been most often relegated to the groupie role (Kate Hudson in "Almost Famous," Meg Ryan in "The Doors") or fodder for comic silliness ("Josie and the Pussycats")....
