  13. Selection Sunday is exciting but will never top the NFL Draft

    "Selection Sunday."
"Selection Sunday." It's got a nice ring, but don't get too cocky, basketball fans. Granted, you have one of the two best non-sporting sporting events (in which no scoring happens), but you will never touch the first day of the NFL Draft. But you...

  21. Review: John Hurt is magnificent in Beckett's 'Krapp's Last Tape'

With his shock of silver-gray hair, his face etched by time with the lean expressiveness of a Giacometti sculpture and his soulful eyes registering every fleeting hurt and happiness, John Hurt bears a striking resemblance to Samuel Beckett in the distinguished British actor's magnificent rendition of "Krapp's Last Tape" at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

  23. 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' plays close to the vest – 4 stars

Actors so rarely get paid to sit still. This week at the movies, as Tom Cruise is on Imax screens playing a frantic, hamsterlike intelligence gatherer in the new "Mission: Impossible" movie, we have also a superb adaptation of the John le Carre spy novel "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." Its central character, George Smiley of the British Secret Intelligence Service, does not smile much, or give anything away. He sits. And watches. And waits for his adversaries, one of whom is a double agent working for the Soviets as well as the British, to make a fatal mistake.
