1. The Gold Standard: Emmy chances for comedy shows and stars

"Modern Family" has won the comedy series Emmy for each of its three seasons. Other shows that have gone the three-peat route — "30 Rock," "Taxi," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "All in the Family" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show" — were denied a...

3. 'Arrested Development' reopens on Netflix, could build from there

You might think that Mitchell Hurwitz, the creative mastermind behind the oddball cult comedy "Arrested Development," would be overjoyed to hear about the crowds thronging the Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stands popping up across the country.

5. 'Arrested Development': Tobias Funke's shorts have a back story

I'm excited about Sunday's release of Fox's new episodes of "Arrested Development."
I'm excited about Sunday's release of Fox's new episodes of "Arrested Development." In my household, we've been watching old episodes of the cult-favorite series that ran on Fox from 2003-2006, to reacquaint ourselves with the Bluth family. Not that we'...

7. Actress Christine Taylor loved getting 'Arrested' again

9. TV picks: 'Arrested Development,' biopics, 'Longmire,' cartoons

"Arrested Development" (Netflix, Sunday, then anytime). The 15-episode, seven-years-belated fourth season of what was formerly a Fox comedy and now belongs to the Internet is not being offered in advance for critical review, so you know as much as I do. Apart from appeasing the critical community, and, as my wife pointed out, not wrecking our Memorial Day weekend by making us work on Sunday, there doesn't seem to be any reason to make it available. Public interest is already running high — higher, anyway, than when the show was actually on — and the producers don't have to worry about winning their time slot, because they have don't have one. The whole series will become available at once Sunday, and then remain available, to Netflix subscribers, something like forever; new subscriptions will be the only metric that matters. I don't think for a moment that this coyness disguises any sort of tactical damage control — given that the old team (who are back every man-jack and woman-jill of them) had an unerring sense of how to make this show, I suspect watching the new episodes will be like running into an old friend from whom the longest separation feels like no time at all. The third season ended not at a moment of resolution but of escape — escape is a kind of resolution, I know — with Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) and son George Michael (Michael Cera) and Michael's father, George (Jeffrey Tambor), sailing off to Mexico; Michael's mother, Lucille (Jessica Walter), hijacking the Queen Mary to evade the SEC; and George Michael's cousin, Maeby (Alia Shawkat), who turned out not to be his cousin, pitching her family story to "AD" executive producer (and narrator) Ron Howard, who didn't see it as a TV show. (But maybe a movie.) Some things have no doubt happened in the interim.

11. 'Arrested Development's' return a Bluth saga in itself

Just two days before "Arrested Development" would release its first new episodes in seven years, creator Mitchell Hurwitz called David Cross with a frantic request: Could the actor do a quick reshoot? Cross, however, was sporting a full, dyed beard for another project and looked nothing like his "Arrested" character. No matter, Hurwitz told him, "We'll figure it out." The next day the actor found himself on a hastily arranged set, filling in a gap on the series that would premiere in Hollywood the following day.

13. Binge or savor: How should you watch 'Arrested Development?'

Not even "Arrested Development" creator Mitchell Hurwitz can recommend whether fans should binge-watch the 15 new episodes debuting on Netflix this weekend, or spread out their viewing over several days or weeks.

15. New 'Arrested Development': All re-dressed up and ready to go

"Arrested Development" costume designer Katie Sparks, whose efforts on the first two seasons of the Fox sitcom earned her a 2006 nomination from the Costume Designers Guild of America, was tapped by series creator Mitchell Hurwitz to work on the new streaming-to-Netflix season that will be released May 26. She recently spoke about her work on the original series and the challenges posed by revisiting — and re-dressing — the quirky Bluth family after a seven-year hiatus. And, for the first time, she explained how she found a perfect pair of denim cutoffs for the "never nude" Tobias Fünke.

19. Review: 'Arrested Development' makes a joyous return

At one minute past midnight, Sunday, May 26, the 15 episodes of “Arrested Development,” season 4 dropped, all at once, upon the battlefield of popular culture. If nothing else, this brings an end to all those articles wondering what the series — back after seven years and available exclusively through Netflix — would look like, how it would play and might best be consumed, and whether it would be the work of angels or apes. Let the speculation end, then, and the arguments begin! Let the metrics be gathered!
