5. 'Misanthrope': Is this Moliere? Or is it Beyonce?

THEATER REVIEW: 'The Misanthrope' at Court Theatre ★★ There is so much going on inside Charles Newell's eye-popping production in "The Misanthrope" ¿ a wildly ambitious mish-mash of a show ¿ that it is not at all easy to know where to start.
There is so much going on inside Charles Newell's eye-popping production in "The Misanthrope" — a wildly ambitious mish-mash of a show that variously suggests the court of Louis XIV had it been populated mostly by African-Americans, Oscar Wilde's...

9. The Crowd: For 'Love,' and for plenty of money

There was some big-time beefcake at a ladies fashion event last week in Newport Beach. Maksim Chmerkovskiy, the super-handsome male dancer made famous by his 13 seasons wowing American television viewers on the hit ABC show "Dancing with the Stars," fronted the March 4 "For the Love of a Child" fashion show and luncheon benefiting Childhelp. Chmerkovskiy had all the ladies melting, including the Childhelp chairpersons, Pam Pharris and Christine Bren, along with 400 pretty gals in early spring fashions, raising a whopping $250,000 net in support of the programs of Childhelp, which fights for the rights of abused and neglected children.

15. Aviator Nation's founder always looks on the bright side

Walking into the Aviator Nation store on Abbot Kinney in Venice is like stumbling into a frat house with a feminine touch. Steely Dan, Doors and Grateful Dead album covers and vintage skate decks nailed to the walls, a record player spinning Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion," a "720 Degrees" arcade game in the corner, stacks and stacks of foam trucker hats, T-shirts and hoodies spreading good vibes like "Pray for Surf" and "California Is For Lovers".... It's such a sensory experience, you half expect your shoes to be sticking to the floor from last night's kegger.

19. Rash guards that do double duty as streetwear

Action sports and high fashion may not seem like the most likely of companions, but in the past decade designers have done more than dip a toe into surf culture; they have embraced the easygoing, sun-drenched lifestyle common to Southern California and found plenty of inspiration.
