  1. Lohan could play Taylor in upcoming movie

Lindsay Lohan could go from posing as Marilyn Monroe in Playboy to playing Elizabeth Taylor for Lifetime. The actress is in early talks to play the big-screen icon in a television movie for the female-skewing cable network, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project is not a new one and has been in development at Lifetime since last May. Independent producer Larry Thompson, who previously worked with the cabler on its 2010 telepic Amish Grace, is overseeing the project. Lohan, a former child model turned actress (and singer), has -- like Taylor -- seen her fair share of career highs and lows. Since debuting in Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, Lohan starred in features including Freaky Friday, Mean Girls and Herbie: Fully Loaded. More recently, Lohan in November was sentenced to jail time due to a violation of her probation. The actress, who failed to attend court-ordered therapy sessions, was also kicked out of the Downtown Women's Center, where she had been assigned to complete community service hours, after arriving late. Lohan ended up spending less than five hours in jail on Nov. 7 due to overcrowding. Lohan, a longtime fan of Monroe, posed for the January/February issue of Playboy, for which she reportedly received $1 million.

  9. The 84th Annual Academy Awards

<a class=&quot;runtimeTopic" href="#">George Clooney</a>, Brad Pitt, Rooney Mara and&mdash;yes and no&mdash;Bridesmaids. Billy Crystal's got his marching orders--and his monologue fodder. Here are the highlights from this morning's Academy Awards nominations: As expected, heavy favorite The Artist will compete for Best Picture; however, it was Martin Scorsese's Hugo scoring the most overall nods, with 11 to The Artist's 10. No other film was in the double digits. The Artist and Hugo lead a Best Picture field that ended up with nine nominees. The other contenders: The Descendants, The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse, and from left field, the A-list-laden, but awards-season non-factor (up 'til just now) Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The Best Actor race finds pals Clooney and Pitt, up for The Descendants and Moneyball, respectively. Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Screen Actors Guild nominee Demi&aacute;n Bichir (A Better Life) and dark horse Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) are also nominated. The Best Actress category sets the stage for the anticipated Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) and Viola Davis (The Help) showdown. My Week With Marilyn's Michelle Williams is in the game, too, as is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's Mara. Melissa McCarthy represents for Bridesmaids in Best Supporting Actress. The comedy, passed over for Best Picture, also snagged an Original Screenplay nod for star Kristen Wiig and cowriter Annie Mumolo. The 84th Annual Academy Awards, with returning host Crystal, are set for Feb. 26.

  23. John Rich Wins Celebrity Apprentice

<span style=&quot;line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; font-size: 14pt;">After a long season of passionate celebrities fighting for various charities, Donald Trump has named John Rich the new <em>Celebrity Apprentice</em>. In the two-hour live finale on <em>NBC</em> Sunday night, the outcome of John and competitor Marlee Matlin&rsquo;s final task was shown. Both stars created spectacular events showcasing <em>7UP Retro</em> and both impressed the <em>7UP </em>executives. John says winning <em>Celebrity Apprentice</em> is all about how you play the game. <em>&ldquo; You had to keep your head in the game and you had to be thinking forward and not become a victim of that game. You had to make that game work for you.&rdquo; </em>During the finale, John and Marlee came together for a performance of John&rsquo;s &ldquo; For The Kids,&rdquo; a song he wrote and made available on <em>iTunes</em> to benefit <em>St. Jude Children&rsquo;s Research Hospital</em>.&nbsp; <em>&ldquo; It is the answer to the question, &lsquo; Why did you do Celebrity Apprentice,&rsquo; for that performance. Give me a chance to get in front of 30-million people and sing a song about St. Jude and give you an opportunity to go click a button and go put a dollar, twenty-nine in their pocket. That&rsquo;s why I did the show.&rdquo;</em> John raised an extra 275-thousand dollars during his last task and picked up 250-thousand for being picked as the <em>Apprentice</em>. Combined with money raised throughout the season, the Big &amp; Rich star raked in well over a million for <em>St. Jude</em>.</span>
