1. Beer-town problems: Are we there yet?

This month's grand opening of the Funky Buddha Brewery brought a new level of beer geekery to Oakland Park and South Florida. Soon after, Gold Coast Beverage Distributors announced they would bring beers from <a href="http://www.newbelgium.com/home.aspx" target="_blank">New Belgium Brewing, the third largest American craft brewery, to the area. This progress in local beer business has been punctuated by some changes indicating we may have been in the game long enough to have what I'll call "beer-town problems."

  11. The Funky Buddha opens in Oakland Park -- finally

Sure, we've had Tequesta Brewing Company for a few years, and Due South and Schnebly's Miami brewing companies for roughly one year, but somehow, the Funky Buddha brewpub in Boca Raton branching into a production brewery seems like a bigger league.

  13. New Canaan's Charter Oak Brewery Aims to Connect With CT Brew Lovers

Scott Vallely brewed beer at home for 30 years while running a successful career in the paper and pulp industry. But the digital age took its toll, and three years ago, Vallely sold his company, paper.com. He always brewed beer in the kitchen of his New Canaan home, and his wife had always been understanding — even when it made the kitchen smell like the day after a frat party. But now, unemployed, his presence in the kitchen wasn't as welcome. "My wife said, 'You're not hanging around this kitchen. Why don't you start a brewing company? You know about it and you love it, and you love starting companies."

  23. A newbie's guide to Chicago Craft Beer Week

How much does Chicago love its beer? Our craft beer week is 11 days long, if that's any indication. The fourth annual Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 16-26) is busier than past years, with 21 new breweries joining the lineup of tastings, tap takeovers and $4 pint nights. The schedule can seem a bit intimidating to newcomers, so we've mapped out the ultimate calendar for those looking to dip their toes into Chicago's thriving beer world. If you're planning to attend multiple events, download the free Chicago Craft Beer Week app (chibeerweek.com), which has a complete listing of the more than 400 events, plus neighborhood guides and a function that tracks your attendance, earns you points and could win you some swag at the end of the week. My advice to first-timers? Check out a bar you've never been to, drink plenty of water and clear your week of morning meetings. <a href="mailto:kbernot@tribune.com">kbernot@tribune.com | @redeyeeatdrink
