1. 'Nice Work' for Jessie Mueller

Jessie Mueller has scored a leading role on Broadway, albeit as a replacement. The longtime Chicago actress will take over from Kelli O'Hara in the Broadway production of "Nice Work If You Can Get It," a musical comedy showcasing the music of George and Ira Gershwin. The young vocalist, always at her best singing music of the Gershwin vintage, will play opposite the continuing Matthew Broderick.

  7. On New York stages, a year full of letdowns

The year 2012, as Queen Elizabeth II might have said, was quite the annus horribilis on Broadway. Especially after the leaves started to turn. Consider the less-than-regal disappointments. "The Anarchist," the polemical new play by David Mamet, closed...

  13. Looking ahead to the Tony Awards: An off year for musicals, but 'Once' deserves to win

NEW YORK — What with "Ghost,""Lysistrata Jones" and other wearying disappointments, the 2012-13 Broadway season hardly will go down as a banner year for new American musicals. For a couple of seconds.
