  5. Think smaller

Turkey. Let's talk about it — honestly. Is it time to ax that big ol' bird from your Thanksgiving feast? Even if you do have the free hours to roast it, a hungry crowd to feed and enough oven space to hold the monster, who these days has the carving skills to do the portioning at the dining room table? Indeed, who among us has a dining room anymore?

  19. Was James Beard the Jolly Green Giant?

Q: I really did enjoy everyone celebrating Julia Child's birthday. But, I do remember another chef that was on television before her, James Beard. I remember seeing his cooking shows and I guess there are no tapes or films that were saved, or maybe there were two in the Library of Congress. So, I was researching James Beard and how they made a museum out of his town house in Greenwich Village and guest chefs put on wonderful food events there. I came across some information that James Beard would do food ads on his show and that he was the original Jolly Green Giant. Is this true? I bought some fresh produce at Target today, Green Giant which was nicely packaged and it made me think of this question.

  21. Don't ban the bird: 10 reasons PBS is the [bleep]

Last night's presidential debate was a controversial one, as most modern political events tend to be these days. One of the biggest talkers coming out of the first debate was GOP contender Mitt Romney straight up admitting that he's going to cut PBS from the budget if he's elected to office. Like most people watching the debate under the age of 46, I was devastated. Here's the thing: I'm not here to discuss how odd it was that eliminating PBS was the first thing Romney went to when talking about things to cut from the budget. I'm not here to discuss how he then said <em>&quot;..but I love Big Bird"</em> like when a racist person says something racist and then backtracks by saying <em>"..err, I'm not racist though. Five black people have been to my house!"</em> I don't even disagree that some of the stuff on PBS is horrible and should get cancelled. ("Barney and Friends"? "Antiques Roadshow"? I'm looking at you.) What I am here to discuss are 10 reasons Romney should reconsider:
