1. Church Learns from Toby

Over the past several weeks, Eric Church has been playing coast-to-coast on Toby Keith‘s Locked and Loaded tour, also featuring newcomer JT Hodges. Church is no stranger to paying his dues when it comes to touring and knowing what his fans have come to expect from him over the years. However, Church admits he has been soaking up as much as possible from watching the ways Keith runs his organization, to use as an example for his own headlining trek set to launch in January.

  3. O Music Award Noms

Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift and even Dolly Parton are apparently super hip in the digital world. The trio of country artists are each nominated for O Music Awards this year for their great innovation in the social media realm. With categories like Best Lyric Video and Most Outrageous Tweet, the O Awards aren’t your average red carpet show. Still, country music managed to battle its way into some of the hottest lists.

  5. Johnny Mathis Dead At 80

Country Johnny Mathis was labeled such early in his career to distinguish himself from the rising pop-singer of the same name. While he didn’t enjoy nearly as much fame as the ‘Misty’ singer, he was still plenty influential until suffering a stroke in 1999. Mathis died yesterday, one day short of his 81st birthday.

She’s playing the lead character in ‘Hart of Dixie’ on the CW, starring as a New York City doctor who is transplanted down south to Alabama. 11. Trace Adkins in 'The Healer'

Acting is nothing new to Trace Adkins. He appeared in The Lincoln Lawyer with Matthew McConaughey earlier this year, and next you’ll see him in the supernatural thriller, The Healer. The film tells the story of twins who become lost in the forest during a camping trip with their father. Trace will play “The Truck Driver,” who transports souls headed to Hades in a big rig from which there is no escape. While acting may seem like a stretch from singing, Trace says music videos prepared him for the job. “Uh, movies are just like music videos. You sit around and wait for ‘em to set up the next shot, and light it, and all that kind of stuff. You’re there a long time but you’re not…you don’t really work that much.” The Healer is currently filming in North Carolina.

  13. Protective Father and Pop Music

Trace Adkins recently admitted to CMT that, as a father, he doesn’t always approve of some of the music out there that may be sending a bad message to impressionable girls. However, there are a few younger artists he has learned to put up with around the house, and has even arranged for his daughters to meet. “Now I’ve been backstage at the Jonas Brothers, and the Cheetah Girls, and hell, everybody else. I’ve met all the rest—Jonas Brothers, did I say Jonas Brothers? Yeah. And Miley, of course, and they got to meet Taylor Swift, so I’m a hero in their world.” When it comes to his own music, Trace admits, “I don't let them listen to my music, either. But I don't make music for kids.”
