Notre Dame on Thursday received its 12th verbal commitment for the 2013 recruiting class when Naples, Fla., standout Mike Heuerman picked the Irish.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Heuerman picked the Irish over Miami, Florida State, LSU and Ohio State.
"Notre Dame beat out some heavyweights to get him," said Steve Wiltfong, national recruiting writer for 247Sports.com.
Heuerman twice visited the Notre Dame campus during the recently completed spring practice session. Irish assistant Tony Alford recruited Heuerman.
"He's a guy that can stretch the field and make all the plays in the passing game that you want from a tight end," Wiltfong said. "He's also not afraid to get down and dirty, be that blocker and be that physical football player that's also needed at the tight end position.
"Notre Dame got the total package."
