offensive coordinator at Florida and accepted the head coaching
position at the University of Kansas.
Weis will be announced at a press conference Friday in Lawrence, Kan.,
and CBS Sports recruiting analyst Tom Lemming is one who believes
Weis’ fourth job in four years may be the best fit.
“I think it’s a great move for Kansas,” Lemming said. “Charlie Weis
learned a lot about being a head coach at Notre Dame. At Kansas, he
won’t have the pressure he had at ND and Florida, so he can build a
program the right way. All he needs to do is show improvement, and at
Kansas, how could you not?
“It’s important he hires the right recruiting staff. He didn’t have a
great recruiting staff across the board at Notre Dame. You need guys
who know Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri, because there are very few
players in Kansas. Charlie now has ties to Florida.”
And Lemming believes the timing will hurt the Gators in recruiting and
could help ... oddly, Notre Dame.
Five-star wideout Nelson Agholor of Tampa, one of ND’s top recruiting
targets, is visiting Gainesville this weekend.
“Unless Florida gets a big name in there fast, this could tip things
in Notre Dame’s favor,” Lemming said.
