Mishawaka police arrested a 17-year-old South Bend boy Friday after, they said, he trespassed at Mishawaka High School and was found with a knife.

Police said the suspect and another juvenile were in the school about 3 p.m. reportedly trying to register. But because they did not have parents with them, they were asked to leave, according to a police report.

A few minutes later, while students were leaving the school, the resource officer reportedly saw the boys talking to other students as they left the building.

When the officer asked the 17-year-old suspect to stop, he refused and pulled away several times when the officer tried to stop him and put his arms behind his back. This prompted the Mishawaka officer to pull out a Taser, which caused the boy to comply before the officer deployed it.

The boy was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of possession of a weapon and resisting police.
