For the next couple of weeks, some local college students are taking part in an archaeological dig at the original home of Havilah Beardsley, Elkhart’s founder.

And as WSBT's Ed Ernstes reports in the video attached above, it's providing clues to what life was like for him and his family more than 160 years ago.

The IUSB class doing the urban archeology and Elkhart city officials welcome the public to watch the dig.

Viewing times are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through June 8, at the Havilah Beardsley House, northwest corner of Main Street and Beardsley Avenue in Elkhart.
